Rachael Anderson, Fiona Mackenzie and Jack McCruden wait to walk into the waves while filming Becoming.
Becoming is a short film (28 minutes) filmed in the Scottish Highlands. Written & Directed by Sarah Woodcock
It is the mysterious story of a woman’s self-discovery set in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.
A mother and her two teenage children walk into the sea, leaving a young girl alone — afraid to follow them in to the big waves on a remote beach.
Years later the girl, Cordy, has blocked out all memory of the beach and the fate of her mother. She lives a stultified life, friendless and focussed on her work as a research therapist. But Cordy’s security is threatened by ill health and a series of disturbing dreams. This comes to a head when an unknown person leaves a ring that belonged to her mother outside her flat.
Cordy is forced to confront her denial and question what she had always believed about her mother’s death being an accident. A meeting with an estranged cousin leads Cordy to journey back to the beach to face the truth of what really happened that day and who she is.
